“It is impossible to be successful while you identify yourself with failure. You tend to attract to yourself circumstances and situations which are like the images of your thought.”—Ernest Holmes
What’s the difference between a fact, Truth and fiction?
As you study the “Law of Cause & Effect,” you learn that every condition or situation in your life is an effect, and every effect has a mental cause. That means that you get more of whatever you put your attention on.
We each create our world based on one of three types of cause: Truth, fact, and fiction. It’s safe to say that pretty much every fact is an effect.
Here are the facts. Your business is booming (or not). Your relationships are great (or not). The amount of money you have, your state of health, the things you own are all facts. When your car or an appliance needs repair, it’s a fact.
When you deal with a fact, you can take the next step in the creative process and recognize some Universal TRUTH related to it; or you can trek down the bumpy road of fiction to wherever it takes you.
Examples of Universal Truths are Love, Abundance, Life, Wisdom, Intelligence, Beauty, Harmony, Peace, etc. Align with these ideas and you will create a positive mental cause full of possibilities.
Many people project fictitious possibilities about all the things that could happen. Is it that they don’t know better or that they love the drama? Maybe both.
For example:
Harold lost his job. That’s a fact, and it has to be dealt with. The bills have to be paid, and Harold will probably want to look for a new job.
Here’s Harold’s fiction: There are no jobs. The economy’s bad. He’s too old or too ugly. His family is going to suffer. Poor, pathetic Harold.
What kind of mental cause does he create with thinking like that? Is there a better way to think about this?
If Harold applies Truth to the situation, he knows the Creator of the entire universe can certainly fix this tiny thing. If he can hold a positive idea of this, he will create a mental cause that can’t help but solve the problem. In fact, a mental cause focused on something better will bring about just that—something better!
Alignment with the Universal Truths will always put you in a place of real power.
When you see a shortage in your checking account, you can indulge in fiction by worrying about all the terrible things that might happen and create the next event from that; or you can stick with Truth and remind yourself that this is an abundant universe with an abundant source that delights in giving you all you can accept. This creates a different cause and will ultimately bring a different effect.
When you have a decision to make and don’t know what to do, you can affirm that Divine Wisdom and Intelligence are guiding you to the best choice.
As you consciously choose the direction of your thoughts, you change the direction of your life. Think again before you allow worry and fear to take you down that bumpy road to wherever…
