Recently, I participated in a weeklong web event with Lisa Nichols (from the movie The Secret). She is someone I admire and would like to emulate. During one of the calls she said something that completely changed my perspective. She stated, “You cannot hit a moving target, so you need to pick a timeframe to achieve your goals.”
I had often told myself that someday I would make that difference in the world, one day I was going to live that life I envisioned.
Those thoughts always put what I wanted out of my reach for today, leaving them in the realm of some undetermined future time. I just had to get through today, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year until that elusive someday arrived—but it never came.
I have taught in my workshops that there are seven days in a week—and someday or one day is not one of them. As is so often the case, what we say or speak to others is what we need to learn—it is our own message.
I now realize that when I place my dreams into the realm of some undetermined future time, I let myself off the hook for taking action, moving forward in that direction TODAY.
By not taking action and moving forward, I often felt unfulfilled and experienced a lack of excitement and purpose in my life. That was exactly the opposite of what I wanted to feel!
It has been several months since that call, and I have made many changes in my life that are aligned with my new belief:
“Today is the day to start living the life of my dreams!”
I have committed to a lifestyle change that includes a low carb diet, exercising every day, and supporting my health today (not tomorrow or Monday). Each morning while drinking my coffee, I am practicing morning gratitude—saying a silent thank you for all the blessings that are currently in my life. I am meditating 20 minutes every morning. I attended a workshop in California with Lisa Nichols to bring my dream of public speaking to fruition.
I am not only reading empowering books, such as Think and Grow Rich, I am actually doing the exercises that they recommend.
I am beginning to write that book that I was going to write “someday.” I am living my life TODAY how I envisioned it was going to look “one day.” That excitement, passion, and purpose that I delegated to the future is here in my life now—TODAY!
