Do you ever feel that you have had enough? You know the feeling: when everything seems to be on cruise control and then suddenly everything seems to go awry. You lose your job the same week your car breaks down, or worse, your significant other has decided to move on and your birthday is just around the corner. Sometimes, the process starts when you least expect it. Maybe, for instance, just after you made a conscious decision to incorporate introspective practices in your daily life, such as Transcendental Meditation, hypnotherapy, yoga, qigong, etc.
You protest, “So why is my life more challenging than ever when it should be the opposite? That’s it!” It is at the moment when you look up and say, “Ok! Ok! I am listening, but please no more!” that you have been blessed with a turning point in your life. Now what do you do?
Tuning points in life are pivotal and, as I look back on my own life, I know they also can be extremely uncomfortable until we embrace the process of shifting. I like to call this the process of liberation because, as we look back on the difficult situation after it passes, we have the opportunity to realize how liberated we truly have become. So you lost your job and all you can do is think of all the challenges this may bring to your life, particularly the financial ramifications, but this process of liberation can actually free you. This shift in your life has created the room for something incredible to come in and fill the space.
“The wound is the place where the light enters you.”—Rumi
In my practice, I have witnessed changes such as this happen quite frequently, and I feel blessed to see the subsequent liberation. Clients often come in for what they think they need, to release stress or for one of countless other reasons, and within a week I get a call that they lost their job or they left their marriage, etc. The client is in shock and bewildered, even though we discuss the possibilities of unexpected events happening during our initial consultation.
The body is a truly perfect vehicle. Once it receives our permission to become liberated, it will release what it needs to operate at its optimal level. The goal at this point is to embrace the process that has been activated with grace and ease. Once we allow this communication to surface peacefully, the experience can be life-changing for sure!
So how do we navigate peacefully during this process? There are three simple steps, and they work for me every time. But before I share them with you, here are some additional thoughts for you to contemplate: Many people want to know why and how this liberation takes place. What did I do? How could I want this upheaval for myself? How will I get all this done? How can I tell my family? The list of questions and concerns goes on and on.
As we take a closer look, we realize the roles the conscious and subconscious minds play in life, especially in the process of liberation. The conscious mind is running wild from thought to thought, while the subconscious mind is orchestrating much of our life. The subconscious mind actually contains the blueprint for our lives, and from an impressionable age it is recording every word being said to us, every situation, etc. As we continue life into adulthood, the conscious mind is directed by the beliefs and feelings that are stored and processed in our subconscious minds.
“An awake heart is like a sky that pours out light.”—Hafez
When we liberate our subconscious mind through the many introspective tools available to us today, we allow the body, perhaps for the first time ever, to function vibrantly in all areas of our lives vs. running an outdated recording that has been playing for years in the background and making us miserable. As this process takes places, I recommend the following for a more peaceful transition:
Find your tribe. This is so important! Find a group of like-minded individuals who will support you throughout this process. You may have to seek and reach out to new friends, and that is a perfect solution. A mentor or hypnotherapist would be awesome, too! You need to find what I like to call your trust zone. This is a space where you can voice what you need to voice and receive unconditional support.
Take time to go within daily. Keep up with yoga or qigong or, better yet, invite Transcendental Meditation into your life. This has been significant for me! Running and riding a bike are great tools as well, and they keep you healthy and trim! A great bonus!
Have an attitude of gratitude. I know this sounds trite, but it works. It works for me in so many ways. Feel blessed as you open your eyes in the morning, and before you put your feet on the floor become mindful of all the blessings you can think of in that moment. Continue this process throughout the day; this will help you avoid getting trapped into negative thinking. See the positives, and remain aware of the many blessings happening around you.
“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” —Oscar Wilde
These steps were instrumental as I was experiencing transformation in my life, and they continue to play an important role for me today. Life is fluid, and it is unnatural to feel stagnant and stuck. Your body recognizes this and, therefore, it has the capability to bring this flow to you as soon as you are ready. Through my own experiences, I have been able to appreciate new levels of consciousness and existence. I am now capable of believing in and living the phrase: “Enjoy the journey!” Life isn’t a dress rehearsal, so follow these simple steps and Live Vibrantly every step of the way!
